(Kataskopos--origin: Greek. Noun, masculine. A scout, spy, or watcher)

Sometimes, in my dreams
I beg the Fates to cast me back
into the Old World
where I can race across the deep blue mirror
of the Aegean and
pour my libations in silver nighttime
and feel the stirring of the Gods in
every breath of dark wind and fire.
Send me across the sea towards the burning sand of Troy
or down the dusty road to Marathon, shield
and pack in hand, with air in my lungs--
beneath a sky that's still vast.
Or even into the cold obsidian of Hades,
as long as I can speak to the dead
and write down all of their stories
for later on
