Your eyes open and the clock says 10-
You can’t remember falling asleep
And the sky is grey and dark again
And the hole inside your mind is deep—again.
How many days? Who knows.
How many gone? Who cares.
The clock is ticking, 10:01 now
It’s time to get up and do nothing, now.
A shower and some tea, and watching just a little tv
Will put your mind at ease
—we swear—
It’ll be alright, just as soon as we get there.
Make sure you pay attention
Watch the boxes keep rising
And hope against hope that we’ll get there
Don’t worry it’s not dying
We promised, remember?
Don’t cry, now—talk to faces on screens and try your best to make it seem
Like you’re entirely alright
We are all in the fight, remember?
Except you’re alone, for some reason.
Eat your food and watch your screen
And try your best not to scream
Because that’s not adult, and we need adults, and you are an adult.
Now send your texts and take your pills and go to sleep.
Don’t you worry about the morning, we’ll get there—
And it won’t be anything new
Just don’t check your clock
It might just say 10:02.
